 Regeneration
of the environment is a slow process which poses a huge challenge. By
starting to expose the area of the Conservancy to less human interference,
which includes the gradual phasing out of traditional agricultural
activities, this process is well on its way, especially on the farm
Goedehoop. Expert knowledge is also employed to ensure the sustainability
of this process. Free State Nature Conservation is heavily involved from
the start of the Conservancy in developing management programs. |

The services of the University of Pretoria were also
engaged to develop eco-friendly hiking trails through the conservancy.
Ecological sustainability is enhanced by following a program whereby the
area is stocked with indigenous animal species. It is however, necessary
that the animal population be controlled to guarantee a healthy and
balanced composition. This is done by allowing, for a limited time of the
year only, eco-friendly controlled hunting in the form of bow- and handgun
hunting.
To fully engage the program of ensuring a healthy
environment, the Conservancy is involved in an ongoing project to chart
the land, plants and ecological systems in detail. Ultimately providing
the visitor with as much information as is needed to become conscious of
the wonders and natural beauty of the Conservancy. |
