Eco-friendly Trails
Laid out by keeping
in mind the needs of the young, the old, the adventurous and even the
brave, the two trails in the Conservancy were established after careful
deliberation of the environmental characteristics of the area by experts
of the University of Pretoria’s department of Ecology. The South African
Trail Owners Association (SATOA) accredits all the trials.
The Ghoya Trail
Starting at the Goedehoop Guesthouse, this
one-day trail over approximately ten kilometres is the perfect option for
day visitors who want to experience the natural beauty of the Conservancy.
Pausing at “Aalwyn koppie” one has a view over the biggest part of the
Conservancy. Hereafter the trail leads to the historical and interesting
Ghoya huts. Lunch is enjoyed down at the picnic spot on the creek where
food and refreshments can be provided (or taken along). The trail then
leads back along the stream towards the guesthouse.
The Springbuck Trail
Just more than five kilometres long in
distance, this pleasurable trail winds its way through a little valley
from where one ascends a hill overlooking the vast plains of the
conservancy. Here is a peaceful rustic spot where one can sit down and
enjoy these wonderful views. From here you walk back through an area
favoured by plains game whilst a view on the legendary “Vegkop” lingers
in the distance.
